THE agricultural credentials of Holbrook-district property Maybank speak for themselves.

In the heart of one of the hottest farming real estate districts in Australia at the moment, selling agent David Gittoes rates Maybank in the top five to 10 per cent for the area.

Most recently, it has been run by Chris Gates and Meg Wade, who have run a beef cattle herd as well as their renowned Castlebar Endurance Arabians horse stud.

“The couple came to the property six years ago, and have produced beef from their herd of about 400 breeders, which the property has carried alongside followers and replacements,” Mr Gittoes said.

“They have run this herd alongside a cropping enterprise on Park High Plain (part of the sale).

“The property has enormous scope from cropping, grazing, fattening and breeding, most forms of livestock production and has outstanding improvements.”

Those improvements include a large homestead designed by Wendy Cornell.

The brick home includes a master bedroom with two walk-in robes and an ensuite, three other bedrooms, three bathrooms, several living areas and a large kitchen. A solar power system provides power.

There is also another manager’s cottage on the property which is currently leased out.

Working improvements include a three-stand wool shed, modern, covered cattle yards, two machinery sheds, a hayshed, workshop and a grain silo.

Soils range from creek flats to red loam rises, and is in a sheltered position in the western end of the Billabong Valley.

The property is considered 95 per cent arable.

The current owners have improved pastures during their tenure, with paddocks now including established stands of phalaris, ryegrass, sub clover and Lucerne, while fodder and forage crops have also been grown.

Stock management is provided by excellent fencing and laneways, while native timbers provide shade and shelter in the 27 paddocks. Stock water is a feature, supplied by 21 dams and a reticulated system to troughs with water sourced from a bore.

The property will be offered at auction as two separate lots: Maybank, which is 580ha, and then Part High Plain, which is 170ha and directly opposite the main property.
