July's rate pause 'strong vindication' for Treasurer Jim Chalmers

A central Queensland farming family has beaten strong corporate interest to secure a first-class 3262ha cattle and cropping aggregation near Emerald.

The highly regarded Kingower aggregation has been sold by the Mosley family in a top-dollar deal with an undisclosed private farming family.

It is understood the buyer has existing farming interests in the region as well as other parts of Australia.

Owned by the Mosley family for about a decade, they originally listed the property for sale in March last year. It was then relisted for sale late last year.

At the time it was expected the property would receive offers well in excess of $30 million for a walk-in walk-out deal.

The price of the sale remains undisclosed, however it is understood to have been sold on bare terms for a sum significantly greater than expected.

Colliers Agribusiness selling agents Rawdon Briggs and Phillip Kelly handled the sale but did not comment on the transaction.

The property features 742ha of irrigation country of which 580ha is flood protected, while there is 774ha used for dryland cropping that has 370ha protected from flooding.

Last season’s cotton crop at Kingower yielded about 10,000 bales.

About 1500ha are used for grazing and stock production with 1300ha of improved pastures and 239ha of natural pastures.

The Mosley family sold a strong number of cattle at the recent Eastern States Cattle Sale held via AuctionPlus during July.

Meanwhile at Bollon in south west Queensland, the Clemesha family are in the process of selling its 25,650ha station after 100 years of ownership.

Initially scheduled for auction on Friday August 4, the family accepted a pre-auction offer from an undisclosed buyer for the property comprising two lots, Weonia and Sunset Valley.

It is understood the buyer is a corporate investor who has been actively buying cattle country in the region.

Terms of the deal are subject to confidentiality with the property considered under offer.

Weonia and Sunset Valley comprise a mix of open buffel grass paddocks with strong stands of low mulga, running around 2000 cows.
