Western Victorian property Mawallok is considered one of Australia’s most historic pastoral holdings and is now on the market — for the first time in 172 years.
A HERITAGE-listed western Victorian property, which has a 10-bedroom mansion and comes with its own six-hole golf course, is being offered for public sale for the first time in 172 years.
Founded in 1847, Mawallok, near Beaufort, is considered one of Australia’s most historic pastoral holdings and is expected to make upwards of $25 million.

A grand 10-bedroom arts-and-craft-style homestead built in 1908 and designed by architect Rodney Alsop is the centrepiece of the sprawling 2349ha estate.
The expansive 2.5ha gardens were designed by renowned landscape architect William Guilfoyle, director of the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria, and believed to be his last known homestead garden design.
The pioneering Russell family founded the property in 1847, which remained in the family until 1980 when the Mitchell family acquired the iconic landmark.
Stephen and Serena Mitchell have continued the legacy of long family ownership and have maintained the holding, preserving and restoring its original features.
Selling agent Nick Myer, of Elders, said it was rare for an iconic and tightly-held asset to be offered for sale.
“The owners are to be commended for their management and continued capital investment, which has greatly contributed to the spectacular presentation and overall efficiencies of Mawallok,” Mr Myer said.

The property also features two tennis courts, a five-bedroom managers residents, two staff cottages, historic bluestone stables and coach house, and, 12 stand shearing shed with adjoining sheep yards.
Suited to cattle, wool, prime lamb, and cropping, Mawallok has an estimated carrying capacity of 30,000 dry sheep equivalents.
It also features outstanding water supply and has a 231 megalitre irrigation entitlement.
