Australian billionaire businessman Brett Blundy’s 1 million hectare Walhallow cattle station aggregation in the Northern Territory is under contract for a record breaking price.

The adjoining properties of Walhallow and Creswell Downs, located at the northern end of the Barkly Tableland, have sold for $250 million to a Sydney-based asset manager, pending settlement.

When the sale settles, it will set a new price record for an Australian cattle station, surpassing the major transaction for the 438,000ha Miranda Downs station in Queensland’s Gulf of Carpentaria by Peter and Jane Hughes last year.

The sale comes seven years after Mr Blundy broke the record, purchasing the Walhallow cattle station aggregation alongside pastoralists Adrian and Emma Brown for about $100 million.

Prior to this purchase in 2014 the Browns and Mr Blundy’s investment group BRCC, purchased the 317,000ha Amungee Mungee station via Amungee Pastoral Co.

Mr Blundy and the Browns last year listed the Walhallow aggregation and Amungee Mungee station for sale along with 77,000ha of Brahman cattle.

The one million-hectare Walhallow Station in the Northern Territory’s Barkly Tablelands region was relisted for sale at the start of this year.

The Browns, via their Bilba Group, bought out Mr Blundy’s share of Amungee Mungee, adding it to their 1.4 million hectare Bullwaddy Pastoral Company portfolio.

The Walhallow aggregation and herd were relisted for sale in February this year through Colliers International with expectations above $200 million.

The deal for the Walhallow aggregation also included a 61,000-plus Brahman based herd, a 9000-head increase compared to when the property was listed for sale last year.

Colliers International did not comment on the deal.

Mr Blundy’s BBRC also did not comment on the deal.

Mr Blundy’s sale of Walhallow and Amungee Mungee comes after Gina Rinehart via Hancock Agriculture and S. Kidman & Co sold the Riverin and Inverway cattle stations for a reported $100 million.

The deal involved the final two cattle stations, which were part of her mammoth $300m listing last year.
