Adelaide family of Kym Liebig pay tribute after fatal Hindmarsh crash
The 59-year-old died after a tragic accident on one of Adelaide’s busiest roads this week.
The family of a 59-year-old Golden Grove man killed in a motorcycle crash on Tuesday have remembered their husband and father with a loving tribute.
Kym Liebig died Tuesday afternoon after his motorcycle collided with a car on South Rd in Hindmarsh while he was on his way home.
On Thursday, Mr Liebig’s family spoke to the media for the first time since the accident, saying the tragedy had “ripped the world from underneath of us”.
“Kind”, “eclectic”, and “quirky” were the words Prudence Liebig used to describe her late husband.
Daughter Beth told 9NEWS that “he always talked about how when he goes, I’ll be fine.”
“He raised my sister and I to be as self-reliant as possible,” Beth said.
“But, I think that’s the only thing he was ever wrong about, because I’ll always need my daddy.”
“If I had one last moment with him, we would be on the road together right now, going to our favourite bakery in Lobethal and getting sausage rolls and pies, and just talking,” daughter Clancy said.
The family also revealed how Mr Liebig had survived a life-threatening brain aneurysm and two strokes 13 years ago.
“We got an extra 13 years and we couldn’t be more grateful,” Clancy Liebig said.
Mr Liebig was an avid motorcyclist, and his family said that he credited that passion with saving his life 13 years ago.
His brothers told 9NEWS they hope the accident won’t stop other motorcyclists from continuing their hobby.
“To all the motorcyclists out there, don’t let this stop you,” brother Peter Liebig said.
“Continue what you’re doing, you’re special people.”
The 44-year-old Park Holme man behind the wheel of the white commodore involved in the accident was arrested by Major Crash officers on Tuesday.
He has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court in March.
