Michael Sulser, tourism and hospitality identity, dies aged 76.
Remembered as an “elegant and amazing man” a giant of tourism and hospitality has died at 76-years-old.
A prominent and well-loved identity in the tourism and hospitality industry has passed away at the age of 76.
Michael Sulser was the principal of Sulser Tourism and Hospitality Consulting Services, and the former general manager of several resorts and venues across the country, including the Wilpena Pound Resort, and a safari lodge in SA’s Flinders Ranges National Park.
Mr Sulser had been battling illness for the past six years before his passing on Monday.
In a statement on Facebook, his family shared the news with friends.
“After almost six years of strength, bravery and fight, we are relieved that he is no longer in any pain and not inhibited to live life how he loved to - to the fullest,” the statement said.
“He was surrounded by love, music and banter right up until he peacefully went off on to his next big adventure.”
Friends of Mr Sulser, to whom he was affectionately known as “Schultzy” flooded Facebook with memories and tributes to their friend, with many remembering him as an “elegant” and “amazing” man.
“Such devastating news,” one said.
“Always so friendly, helpful, cheerful and larger than life itself!”
“He had a wicked sense of humor (sic) and a cheeky smile,” another said.
Mr Sulser’s family said he “continues to live on” in their hearts.
“We will always speak your name, sing along to your music, visit our favourite places and people, and celebrate life, just like you.”
Mr Sulser’s career took him all over Australia, including managing the former Contiki Whitsundays Resort in Queensland, the All Seasons Rottnest Lodge and the Karri Valley Resort in WA.
He also oversaw development of the Rawnsley Park Eco Villas in the Flinders Ranges and the North Star Inn-Hotel in Melrose.
In place of a funeral, Mr Sulser’s family said they will be creating a video compiling anecdotes and pictures of Mr Sulser.
He is survived by his wife and daughter.
