Man charged with criminal trespass as Bragg Centre clean-up continues
The 31-year-old Ingle Farm man was allegedly armed with a knife as he trespassed and damaged the building in Adelaide’s CBD.
SES crews have been “hard at work” cleaning up the Australian Bragg Centre as an Ingle Farm man faced court charged with criminal trespass and property damage.
Police arrested the 31-year-old man about 1am on Sunday after they allegedly found him trespassing in the $500m Bragg Centre on North Tce.
The man was allegedly in possession of a knife, and police found the building partially flooded with the fire sprinklers on.
The suspect was refused bail and appeared in court on Monday charged with property damage and criminal trespass.
The centre has been temporarily closed as SES crews and contractors work to repair and clean the building, using brooms to sweep water out of the centre. Minister for Health and Wellbeing Chris Picton took to social media to thank the SES and tradies for their “hard work”.
The Bragg Centre is a purpose-built biomedical development slated to be home to cancer research institutes.
The building is occupied by SA Health administration staff, who are now working from home or from temporary workstations at other SA Health facilities, although Mr Picton said that “thankfully” the SA Health floors were “not as extensively damaged” and “staff will hopefully be back soon.”
Police have not yet identified how the man gained access to the building, or established a motive for the damage caused, which is estimated in the hundreds of thousands of dollar
Premier Peter Malinauskas said that the incident affected mostly administrative areas and that the government “don’t anticipate it will have an effect on clinical services”.
