Teen chased and held at knifepoint during attempted robbery at Carrara

A young boy has been chased and threatened by an armed offender in the second attack of its kind on the Gold Coast in a matter of days. Read what happened.

A teenage boy has been chased by a man armed with a knife and threatened in what police believe is the second attack on the Gold Coast by the same offender in a matter of days.

The 16-year-old had rung his parents just before 7pm on Saturday to pick him up on Pappas Way, Carrara when, according to Acting Superintendent Jason Tuffley, he began walking to meet them.

“He’s been approached by a vehicle containing a number of persons – one of these people has got out and began to chase the 16-year-old boy,” Act Supt Tuffley said.

“He has run, however, he’s tripped over and the offender armed with a knife has demanded his property.”

As the boy began removing items to hand over to the man, his parents arrived and disturbed the attempted robber, who ran back to the waiting car and sped off.

“It’s only 7pm at night, you’re in Carrara and you’re approached at knifepoint by somebody who is demanding your property. Very traumatic,” Act Supt Tuffley said.

The teen sustained minor cuts to his hands after falling to the ground. None of his property was taken.

Police believe the same person was involved in a robbery at Surfers Paradise on Wednesday in which a 33-year-old man was approached and threatened by a man armed with a knife. The 33-year-old was forced to hand over cash.

Investigations are ongoing and police are reviewing CCTV footage.

They’re appealing for anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the incidents, or who may have CCTV or dashcam footage to get in touch.
