Aussie White ewes stolen from Wagga Wagga property

Police are investigating the theft of 33 Aussie White ewes from a property in Wagga Wagga.

Police are investigating the theft of 33 Aussie White ewes from a Wagga Wagga property.

Aussie White sheep, a shedding breed, have made headlines for achieving record prices in recent times.

Last year in September, an Aussie White ram sold for an Australian record of $240,000 for the Tattykeel Stud at Oberon.

NSW Rural Crime Investigator Detective Senior Constable Paul Clancy described the recent theft as “opportunistic.”

He said the area where the ewes were stolen from, Moorong, at Wagga Wagga had been hit hard due to flooding.

“Livestock thieves have gained access to a victim’s property via an area not usually accessible to the public,” he said.

Police say the ewes Aussie White maiden ewes were stolen between December 10 and December 12 last year.

It is believed the property was accessed through Pomingalarna Reserve which was opened to vehicles at that point in time to mitigate the effect of local flooding.

Pomingalarna Reserve is a popular location for mountain bike riders, and runners and is also home to Wagga Wagga’s new Multisport Cycling Complex.

The ewes were tagged with yellow electronic NLIS tags containing the PIC NB551236 and were earmarked with a ‘C’ out of the back of the nearside ear.

Rural Crime Investigators are requesting any person who sighted a livestock trailer, small livestock truck or similar in the area, or any suspicious activity, to contact Wagga Wagga Rural Crime Investigator Detective Senior Constable Paul Clancy 0427 552 848 or Ned Doubleday on 0429 596 435 or Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.
