HEAVY movers in the ag arena will get the chance to kick a few hefty tyres of Scania’s New Truck Generation range at the Wimmera Machinery Field Days.
Released in Australia last March, the range includes impressive features such as the world’s first driver and passenger side rollover window curtain airbags, a claimed 5 per cent lowering of fuel consumption on average and vastly improved aerodynamics.
Improved stability and braking performance have been gained via a lower centre of gravity and a repositioning of the front axle.
WIMMERA MACHINERY FIELD DAYS OVERVIEW
In the 280hp–730hp range, the new Scania trucks are the result of 10 years of development and an investment of more than $3 billion.
Scania Australia is confident of having its powerful new R650 on show along with its G500 XT Tipper and its G440 Hook Lift.
Aimed at the long and medium haul markets, the new range has been well accepted in Australia and the company claims the trucks will set the benchmark in trucking for the next decade.
The most noticeable changes are the completely redesigned, low-sitting cabs. They have a plethora of instruments and displays, but most test drivers report they are easily worked out and contribute to relaxed driving.
Scania is confident the new rigs will have wide application in the agricultural arena and allied industries.
Particularly beneficial, it believes, will be fuel savings for transports carrying produce vast distances.
