A mix of new and repeat buyers competed to secure the top bulls and females at the Kelly Angus on-property sale at Yea.

Bulls sold to a high of $32,000, and the registered female heifers topped at $10,500 and returned an average of $3525.

Stud principal Vicki Standish said she was happy with the overall result given the current price climate.

She said there was confidence in the female sale too, which demonstrated people wanted to buy breeders.

This year Kelly Angus included 20 registered heifers in the offering to complement the bull catalogue.

Kelly Angus stud manager Pat Joyce described the top-priced bull as being a “moderate all arounder.”

“In our industry, we don’t need huge cattle, he is a very correct bull with plenty of meat and carcass,” he said.

Mr Joyce said, interestingly, the majority of the bulls sold were secured by purchasers who lived within a 100-kilometre radius of Kelly Angus.

“I’d say 95 per cent of the bulls we sold will stay in this area,” he said.

Volume purchases and repeat buyers Chris and Kaylene Tyack of Wallan bought six bulls to a top of $14,000.
