Bulls sell to $20,000 at central Victorian sales

The bull sale juggernaut continues with results surprising some. See what happened at both the Glendan Park and Adamleuca sales.

Two bulls at $20,000 each and new clients for Hereford and Angus sires were highlights at the combined Glendan Park and Adamleuca bull sales at Redesdale last week.

And it was the willingness of both new and existing buyers to spend up on genetics that made the sale a success according to Glendan Park’s Alicia Trovatello.

“It was a good day for both studs, and we understood that the results would reflect the beef market conditions which have been challenging for the past 12 months or so,” Ms Trovatello said.

“But what we saw was confidence from commercial producers and it was good to see they were willing to invest in quality genetics.

“When you are breeding, whether it is as a stud like us or a commercial operator, you want to breed the best possible.”

In a breakdown of the sale results, Glendan Park sold 29 of 38 Hereford bulls offered at auction for an average of $10,407 while Adamleuca Angus sold 36 of 39 bulls at auction for an average of $9882.

The sale’s top for Herefords of $20,000 was paid for a May 2022-drop Glendan Park bull which weighed 850 kilograms and had an eye muscle area of 132 square centimetres. It was bought by Moore Partnership at Edenhope, a commercial producer and a long time client of the stud.

The top price Angus bull also made $20,000 for Adamleuca and went to first time buyer Fucheng Australia at Sutton Grange, one of four bulls the new clients secured at the sale. The $20,000 bull was the first son of Milwillah Slideshow Q102, a bull bought for $130,000 in 2021 from the Milwillah stud at Young, NSW.

“We thought so much of this bull, being the first son of Slide Show, that we have retained semen for in herd use,” Ms Trovatello said.

The Trovatello brothers – Alvio and Sam – run their Hereford and Angus stud sales together. But it was the final sale for Sam’s Adamleuca Angus stud, as it has been sold to his brother Alvio.

Adamleuca was bought by Alvio and his daughter Alicia last June, and will sell under the Glendan Park prefix from next year on.

Ms Trovatello said most passed in bulls had been sold after auction and the success of the sale was rewarding.

“It is good to see our clients are on the same page when it comes to wanting to breed better cattle,” she said.
