Absolute Angus bull sale results
Bulls sold to an average of $6600 at the Absolute Angus sale, despite a tough Gippsland market.
Bulls sold to a top of $12,000 at the Absolute Angus Gippsland bull sale held at Trafalgar South last week.
Overall, 21 bulls (some of which sold after the auction) sold from 26 offered for an average of $6600 and a top of $12,000.
This compares to last year when 32 bulls sold for an average of $8781 and top of $16,000.
The top priced bull, Absolute Rimfire T151, was 18-months-old and sired by Milwillah Rimfire R1023, a sire that was purchased for $80,000 in 2021.
Absolute Rimfire had Estimated Breeding Values of +5 for eye muscle area, compared to the breed average of +6.4, and intramuscular fat of +4.2, compared to the breed average of +2.3 and birth weight of -0.7, compared to +4.
Manager of Rinaldi Family Trust Jamie Joyce from Wonthaggi, purchased the $12,000 bull and the second top bull, Absolute Rimfire T965, for $10,000.
Absolute Angus principal Anthony Pisa said considering the beef cattle and bull market in Gippsland it was a solid sale overall.
“The bulls were in good condition, and I believe the quality of the bulls and genetics are of a high standard, but competition was low and that is because of the Gippsland market at the moment,” Mr Pisa said.
Mr Pisa said the top bull had “amazing pedigree” and presence, with his phenotype and structure hard to fault.
“The calves from Milwillah Rimfire are making such an impact in our herd and will for others.”
A bearish bull market drew Glengarry breeder Leanne Sutton into the bidding.
Leanne said she was enticed to buy what she described as a very good value bull at $5000, while her son Jarryd Sutton bought three for his operation.
Given the sale results, she was also considering buying at the inaugural Echuca sale.
“I’m looking for bulls with really good 400-600 day growth figures so I can turn off good weaned cattle at 10-14 months of age, 350-400kg, into the store market.”
She said many producers were waiting on the autumn break to build confidence in the coming season.
Absolute Angus will hold another bull sale on Thursday at Echuca with about 40 bulls on offer.
