Saputo raises opening price ahead of 2021-22 milk season start date
One of Australia’s biggest dairy processors has stepped up at the farmgate as it races to compete for milk supply in the 2021-22 season.
Saputo has lifted its opening price by 30 cents as Australia’s processors approach the final week before the 2021-22 season.
The Montreal-based processor has confirmed an average weighted price of $6.95/kg milk solids, up from the $6.65/kg milk solids figure offered at the June 1 mandatory dairy code deadline.
Saputo supplier relations director Anthony Cook said the jump consisted of a 7 cent per kilogram boost to its butterfat price and a 14 cents per kilogram step up in its protein price.
“We are committed to reviewing our minimum milk price to ensure our pricing remains competitive,” he said in a letter to suppliers.
“We have released an updated southern milk region MSA (milk supply agreement), which has been published on our website.
“Aside from this update to our minimum milk price, there are no changes to the MSA.”
The move by Saputo comes less than a week after Bulla confirmed a third pre-season step up to its minimum price.
The Colac-based processor lifted its opening price range to $6.85/kg-$7.35/kg milk solids, up 15c/kg across its four supplier price categories.
