Chucky was rescued by Xavier and Kimberley from Chooks at the Rooke through Maremma Rescue Victoria nine months ago.

He now has a job and a home, where he protects the 1650 chooks and 40 Banquet-blood Angus cows and calves on 64ha at Cororooke near Colac.

To all those hardworking puppies, thank you for sharing your story with us and we hope you have sweet dreams.

4pm, Time to cool off

PARTS of southeast Australia have been getting an early taste of summer today — Hopetoun in the Victorian Mallee recorded temperatures just shy of 40 degrees at about 1.30pm.

Luckily, these dogs know how to cool off.

Day of Dogs 2018. Romeo the Kelpie

The second love (after his family) for kelpie Rusty, according to his owners Dennis and Samantha Reynolds from Orbost, is chasing the sprinklers on the irrigation lines.

Marj Shay from Maiden Gully says nine-month-old Kelpie-Border Collie cross, Paddy, loves to play with the water in the hoses.

“While we are watering the garden he constantly runs around us trying to grab the water,” she says.

"Paddy is also an up-and-coming sheep dog. He is determined to chase the sheep instead of rounding them up, he thinks it is the best fun to run and chase them all over the place."

Their son Graeme Cook sent in these pictures and says Bella has quickly fit into their family and has become a very important part of their lives.

“Bella is great company and a reliable security alarm for the folks as well as a much needed outlet for me to exercise regularly,” he said.

“Dad had working dogs as a kid from Blue Heelers to Kelpies and this is the first time in 70 odd years that he has enjoyed having his own dog again. He has temporarily become somewhat immobile due a knee reconstruction and Bella serves as a nice distraction.”

11.40am, Getting into mischief

SOME dogs are a little naughty sometimes, but we still love them just the same.

Geelong’s Gerry Fleming says his 18-month-old Border Collie Ruby likes long walks and chasing tennis balls, but also has a liking for “chewing shoes”.

“She lives a life of leisure and roams our half-acre block,” he says.

“She is very loveable, good-natured and protective.”

Then there is toast bandits Charlie and Bear, and let’s just say it’s lucky Min is so cute considering his unusual tastes!

9am, G’day mate

Wedderburn, VIC

DOGS are certainly faithful friends, but they also like to make new ones, too.

Val Rees and her husband were on a road trip and passing through Wedderburn in central Victoria recently when they saw this meet-and-greet unfold.

“I spotted these two dogs walking down the street who stopped to welcome these other dogs that were in the back of a working ute parked on the side of the road,” she says.

"We watched in amazement as these two dogs took it in turns to reach up to sniff and say hi the kelpie in the ute.

“Such a wonderful thing to witness. Then with all tails wagging the two dogs left and went on their way.

"This bought such a smile to our faces to witness.”
