Lilies on the Park
On weekends, Lilies on the Park brims with customers of all ages attracted to the green surrounds, nearby playground, cycle paths and easy parking.
The Friday morning we visit, the cafe is quiet, with a few customers lounging on huge daybeds. Every table is outdoors but the massive awning and heaters create a snug space.
Our mellow Grinders cappuccinos ($3.30/$3.80) arrive quickly, followed by a tangy banana and honey smoothie ($6).
The cafe is licensed and sells a good range of Tease teas and Spotted Cow cookies. The menu includes standard breakfast fare, while lunch includes burgers, soups and salads for about $15 and wraps and melts for about $8.
Our bacon-and-egg roll is matched well with a spicy tomato relish ($9) but the tortilla with mushrooms, tomato, avocado, spinach, cheese and capsicum ($7.50) looks a little wilted and is light on filling.
The staff are friendly but can't tell us much about our glazed orange cupcake ($4.50), which is plainly presented. Given the glorious location, a small push could raise Lilies a notch into the complete package.
