Lenny Briskets food truck can be difficult to track down in Sydney, even allowing for its savoury exhaust trail of smoked meats.

Getting your hands on its New York deli sandwiches just got a little easier, with Lenny Briskets going one better than parking in a permanent spot. It has now opened a bricks and mortar site on Victoria Street, Darlinghurst.

Lenny Briskets rolled onto our streets a few years ago in the shadow of citywide lockdowns, earning a following for its classics, including pastrami on rye and a reuben.

The venture is the brainchild of former Bootleg Bar co-owner Rob Gal, and a transplanted New Yorker, Leonard Grunbaum, who grew up in a family of deli operators in Yonkers.

The new Deli Diner Bar is another step up for Lenny Briskets, which does a brisk trade in muffuletta, loaded fries and cold deli fare.

"My pa taught me the most important thing about meats is quality and quantity," Grunbaum says.

"My ma taught me that every customer has to feel like they're at our own dining table when they come into our store, and that's what we're trying to do at Lenny Briskets."

At night, the lights dim and Lenny Briskets then morphs into a bar.
