Kampong Boy
Malaysian$$
At the quiet end of Forest Road lies this simple eatery with timber stools and tables on tiled floors. The menu is all Malaysian favourites, and the rojak is a fine way to start. This salad of pineapple, cucumber, beansprouts, egg and fried bread is thickly smothered in crunchy peanut dressing. Belachan long beans are glossy and salty and the lao shu fen is a comforting claypot of thick rice noodles, minced pork, mushrooms and dried fish. Some of the es chendol desserts are doused with sickly syrup that smells a little too much like air freshener, so play it safe and end instead with condensed milk-sweetened coffee. Malay-style afternoon tea is served on weekends.
