Hardly a spare seat on a midweek evening is a good sign, as are the big groups easily accommodated at communal tables in the airy first-floor bistro with adjoining smokers' terrace. Food comes from La Local, a small chain catering in a number of southern pubs, and it's pretty good. Steaks are substantial and come with various sauces or the ultimate surf 'n' turf - added prawns plus salt-and-pepper squid. But the pasta is the winner on the night - chilli seafood fettuccine which can be ordered mild, medium or hot. Go for hot, your tastebuds will thank you.
