Two-hatted regional Victorian fine dining restaurant Fen is closing
Two-hatted restaurant Fen, the fine-diner in the far-flung seaside town of Port Fairy, will close on February 25.
Announcing the closure on Instagram, owners Ryan and Kirstyn Sessions described Fen as their dream restaurant.
They say the site will become an offshoot of Kermond's Hamburgers, the old-fashioned burger joint that opened in Warrnambool in 1949 before spawning a second shop in Geelong.
The Sessions opened a food and wine store at 24 Bank Street during COVID, adding a moody 14-seat fine-dining restaurant at the rear, which they designed and built themselves.
It opened on April 29, 2022 serving dinner on Friday and Saturday only.
It received a glowing review from The Age's chief restaurant reviewer, Besha Rodell, who described it as worth travelling for and splurging on.
The Sessions helped establish Port Fairy, about three-and-a-half hours' drive from Melbourne, as a culinary destination. An earlier incarnation of Fen was also awarded two chefs' hats by The Age Good Food Guide.
The Sessions were taking final bookings for Fen's $190-a-head tasting menu, which celebrates the region's excellent seafood, including abalone, a Fen signature.
The food store will close on February 28.
