Update: Annam, Attica's Bake Shop, The Baths, Etta, Ish, Leonardo's Pizza Palace and Pho Nom are no longer offering takeaway or delivery. These listings have been removed.

Think takeaway, and pizza and souvlaki might come to mind. But with people being asked to stay home to control the spread of COVID-19, some of Melbourne's best restaurants and cafes are getting into the takeaway and delivery game.

Eating restaurant food at home requires a change of mindset, from enjoying the entire atmospheric experience of dining out to simply appreciating the food in our own surrounds.

Charlie Carrington is known for taking taste buds to another country from the comfort of his South Yarra restaurant, and now he's enabling them to do the same from the comfort of your own home with The Atlas Masterclass. Each week, he's doing live cooking classes featuring a different cuisine, complemented by an ingredient box to recreate the meals in 15 minutes. The produce boxes can be collected weekly and feed two or four people over three dinners ($79 and $99, respectively). Tracey Lister's cooking school and take-home meal service is launching virtual cooking classes and a home-delivery service. This family-run cafe has popped up across the road at the TerryWhite Chemmart pharmacy with a coffee cart selling fresh baked goods and takeaway meals, which are available to order via phone or online. Ronnie Di Stasio's venues are offering pick up and delivery across a range of suburbs in north, south and southeast Melbourne (check the website). The winery restaurant has closed to customers but people can now pre-order pizzas, take-home meals, wine, beer and cider for pick-up (11am to 4pm daily) via a new, purpose-built website. Moon Dog World, Preston

The team at Moon Dog recently fired up their new brewery at Moon Dog World and are now sitting on 250,000 litres of beer. They've just launched a contactless drive-through for both food and beer, which runs from noon to 8pm daily. Home delivery is also an option for orders over $40 to Preston, Roseanna, Heidelberg, Eaglemont, Ivanhoe, Kew, Alphington, Fairfield, Northcote, Brunswick East and Thornbury. From Friday, March 27, you can set up fine dining at the dinner table with Navi's incredibly good value three-course meal for two for $70. Oriental Teahouse, South Yarra

Dumplings are not cancelled – as well as regular takeaway between 11.30am and 3pm, and again in the evening between 5pm and 9pm (or home delivery via Deliveroo), Oriental Teahouse is also offering cook-at-home dumpling and fried rice kits. This Mornington Peninsula brewery is open for takeaway beer, and take-home packs with barbecue and brews. The winery's onsite 400 Gradi is also serving pizza, pasta, shared meals and dessert for pick-up or delivery via Rochford's own delivery team. In a move that has been labelled Cucina Pandemica, Sosta Cucina's new menu is available for takeaway and delivery. For the first time since 1978, this Greek institution is reducing its hours from 24-7 to 11am to midnight (potentially 1am). St. Ali has partnered with small businesses to create a $55 community breakfast box, available for pick up or delivered same-day within 10 kilometres if ordered by noon. As well as a takeaway menu, Staple has all the staples available on their online store. There's fruit and vegetable boxes, free-range eggs, coffee, bread, butter, dry pasta, sugar, rice, milk, Dr Marty's crumpets and even toilet paper (minimum order is $30). Orders made before 2.30pm will be delivered the next day between 5pm and 7pm for free within a five-kilometre radius (and further, though you may need to be flexible with timeframes). Local favourite The Recreation has pivoted to "The Rec Delivered" (see @therecdelivered on Instagram), with delivery to Carlton North, Clifton Hill, Collingwood, Fitzroy, Fitzroy North and Northcote – and available to pick-up for anyone else. Chicken liver parfait, duck and mushroom tortellini, heirloom tomato salad and burrata, lamb pithivier, barbecue chicken are on the menu, plus wines from $20 and a selection of beers. Takeaway and delivery for lunch and dinner daily and they are offering "WAITO" vouchers (When All This Is Over), that can be redeemed when The Recreation reopens, with another 20 per cent of their value added upon dining in. Smith & Deli has increased the amount of pastries and take-home vegan meals available, and owner Shannon Martinez has teamed up with Northside Fruit and Vegetables to provide local produce boxes ($50) on Wednesday and Friday ($10 delivery fee or pick up) with the option to add fresh bread, milk, doughnuts and more.. Around the corner, sister restaurant Smith and Daughters now offers takeaway between 6pm and 9pm, Tuesday to Saturday. This Brunswick local has put together a web store called Ted's Grocer where you can order and pick-up sourdough bread, eggs, milk and alt-milks, butter, coffee, fermented vegetables, bone broth, produce boxes from Northside Fruit and Vegetables, yoghurt, preserves, rice, pasta, oil, cheese, sliced meats, dessert and hearty meals – not to mention giant rolls of toilet paper.
