The Goodsline fast-tracks design and cafe classics in Pyrmont
Jack Hanna was co-founder and co-owner at The Grounds before selling his stake and stepping away from the ground-breaking Sydney venue. But the big question has been, what will Jack do next?
"I had some time away from the industry to recharge, but I was lured back," says Hanna, who made his name as a barista and coffee roaster.
The snare was a site at the harbour end of Harris Street, Pyrmont, where he has opened The Goodsline, named after the industrial railway connecting Sydney's inner-west industrial suburbs to the docks.
While he admits it's a tough end of Harris Street for restaurants, the cafe's position at the base of an office block with plenty of nearby apartments puts potential regulars on his doorstep.
Like The Grounds, The Goodsline leans heavily on design, with creative outfit Luchetti Krelle offering up chandeliers and slick cabinetry.
Chef Chris Evanges (Watsons Bay Hotel) and consultant chef Jason Roberson have designed a tight menu that sweeps from baked eggplant shakshuka at brekkie to slow-cooked lamb shoulder after dark.
And bringing some of his history with him, Hanna stocks The Grounds coffee, a product he knows intimately, among other roasters.
Open Mon-Tue 7am-4pm; Wed-Thu 7am-late; Sat 7.30pm-late; Sun 7.30am-4pm.
