Sydney's best hot chips 2016
Jack's Newtown, Newtown
Salty, super-crispy crinkle-cut fries are what many of our more PG dreams are made of.

The Burger Shed, Mosman and Charlie and Co., various locations
Justin North's truffle and parmesan fries pack an umami hit like no other. The perfect accompaniment to a big, juicy burger.

Parlour Burger at The Morrison, CBD
While we love The Morrison for oysters, the chips at Parlour Burger well and truly stole our hearts (and may well do this literally). Sean Connolly's duck-fat chips are crunchy batons of deep-fried goodness. No – make that greatness.

The Treehouse, North Sydney
On the menu, these are humbly listed as "house chips", but they're so much more than that. These thick-cut potato wands have it all: a crunchy exterior and a fluffy, moreish filling, and just the right amount of salt. We're in love. With potatoes.

Butter, Surry Hills
Look past the sexist wall coverings and straight down into your basket of shoestring fries. They're deliciously crisp, consistently fresh and just plain good.

Zeus St Greek, various locations
An homage to the old-school chip shop, these hot little numbers are best enjoyed folded into a pita.

Mary's, Newtown and CBD
The good people of Newtown must have done something right in a past life – they live within walking distance of two of Sydney's best hot chip purveyors. Like most menu items at Mary's, the fries are best eaten way after dark, when things like calories and cholesterol cease to matter.
6 Mary Street, Newtown; 154 Castlereagh Street, Sydney
The Morrison, CBD
Duck fat chips are always a good idea, and at The Morrison, they're deep-fried perfection. Crunchy and munchy and served in generous portions, we're always up for these.

Grand Duk, CBD
This quietly awesome Vietnamese fusion cafe is tucked away almost at the end of the CBD, and it deserves more accolades than it's received. For now, let's give props (and thanks) for their duck fat chips. Because every banh mi needs a serve of fries, don't you think?
