Nathan Sasi to open Good Times ice-creamery
Dessert sales could take a hit on Macleay Street, Potts Point, with one of Sydney's most talented chefs opening a soft-serve ice-creamery across the road from Apollo restaurant next month.
Former Nomad head chef Nathan Sasi, who launches Mercado restaurant in the city in March, will also open the soft-servery, Good Times, in late February.
"We're making our own cones and our own bases. I really want to do restaurant desserts in the form of an ice-cream, says Sasi. "One I'm working on is a nod to David Bowie, the Ziggy Stardust – strawberry and rosewater ice-cream with gold-dusted shaved white chocolate."
A former stalwart of the strip, chef Chris Manfield, will be the guest creator for Good Times' first two weeks, with a brightly coloured Rainbow Parade one of her early creations.
Sasi doesn't believe he's late to the soft-serve party, arguing it has its own distinct market. "My wife prefers soft-serve because it's not as hard. Visually it looks great, and there's a nostalgia to it."
