Just Open: Rude Boy Burger, Brunswick West
The owners of bustling Brunswick West cafe Lolo and Wren, Franco Caruso and his wife Karen Ascui-Rodriguez, are now serving top-notch burgers with "a bit of grunt" next door.
Expanding the limited after-dark eats within the neighbourhood, Rude Boy Burger serves burgers, hotdogs and fries made from quality produce.
"We personally know the farmer that raises our beef – he comes in for breakfast next door," Ascui-Rodriguez says of the Clover Valley wagyu that forms the patties on burgers like the DBC (double bacon and cheese) and the Big Popper with a cheese and jalapeno fritter.
Golden Plains pork shoulder, free-range Milawa chicken and sausages from Brewsters in Port Melbourne round out the locally sourced meat offerings. There's a Philly Mushroom Cheesesteak for vegetarians, gluten-free buns, and a liquor licence to come.
With thoughtful cardboard cups to catch messy burger juices and a fitout with recycled leanings, it's a neat, almost-wholesome burger experience, disguised by an easygoing diner vibe that's dripping with 'tude.
Open daily 11am–9pm.
