Greek restaurant M.I.M by 1821 opens in former Jamie's Italian site
Nothing gets in the way of Sydneysiders and a restaurant launch, not even the inconvenience of not being able to dine in. The Pitt Street site where British celebrity chef Jamie Oliver's eponymous restaurant sank is joining the party, reopening with home-delivered and pick-up Greek food.
There isn't a hint of Oliver left to the dining room, with M.I.M by 1821 brimming with murals of the Acropolis and a giant screen showing snippets of mid-20th century films and iconic Greek photos.
The restaurant has good pedigree. M.I.M by 1821 is a co-production between the families of restaurateurs Jim Kospetas (The Civic, 1821) and Steve Anastasiou (China Doll, China Lane), only it's the "young blood" of the next generation who drive the restaurant.
M.I.M, an acronym for Made in Mykonos, is hoping to bring some of the energy and fun of the Greek holiday island, along with its smorgasbord of Greek food. Its "finished at home" menu flits from spanakopita to the lesser-known spiced pumpkin pie kolokithopita. There's an ouzo-spiked giouvetsi (beef stew), and a truffle moussaka.
Open Wed-Sat 3-6pm (pick-up for pre-ordered meals).
