Eataly-inspired venue Locali by Romeo's opens on George Street
The sprawling Eataly-inspired venue Good Food tipped last year to open in the Sydney CBD finally opens this week, and there's a named chef attached to the project.
Orazio D'Elia, the chef-restaurateur who leapt to food prominence with detour-worthy pizza in Bondi before building the Matteo empire in Double Bay and the CBD, is the creative consultant at Locali by Romeo's on George Street.
"It has a bit [of the flavour and mix] like Eataly in New York or LA and other food venues," he says of its mix of pizza, drinks and eat-in and takeaway meals.
"It's reasonably priced, not fine dining, it's a city lunch venue," D'Elia says of the venue. And he's hand-picked its kitchen crew.
Attached to independent grocery store Romeo's, Locali by Romeo's is part food hall, part walk-in cheese room, delicatessen, eatery, cafe and supermarket in one.
"We'll start with lunch and also open for breakfast in a month."
Loopcreative designed the space with lashings of marble, copper, and even a bottle shop.
And D'Elia says there are more Localis on the way. "This is the flagship, but there are two smaller ones in the pipeline, one at the [Australian] Technology Park and another at Wynyard."
Open Mon-Fri lunch (coffee from 7am).
388 George Street, Sydney
