Doyle family's restaurant closes at Overseas Passenger Terminal
The Doyle family's 27-year-old restaurant at Circular Quay has become the latest casualty at the Overseas Passenger Terminal, trading for the final time on Sunday.
The redevelopment of the terminal has already seen two other venues - Wildfire and Ocean Room - close.
The website for restaurant Peter Doyle @ the Quay cites the upgrade of the Overseas Passenger Terminal as the reason behind its abrupt closure this week. It had been thought the restaurant would be spared in the upgrade to facilities designed to cope with growing passenger traffic from cruise ships.
Restaurant operators in the area were shocked not only by the departure but its timing, with local eateries playing to packed audiences due to the Vivid festival, which runs until June 9.
“As you can imagine our abrupt and unforeseen closure has come as a great shock to us and to any of our clients that have made bookings...", a message from Gayle, Robyn and Sharon Doyle states on the restaurant's website.
It no doubt comes as a major blow to staff, some with the restaurant since its opening in 1987.
The Doyle family could not be reached for comment.
