Brisbane is the first city outside Melbourne to snag year-round access to a seat at Supernormal for its cult lobster rolls.

Andrew McConnell's popular Asian eatery is heading north next year to the sunshine state, lured by a head-turning new building on the Brisbane River and the prospect of the 2032 Olympics.

Set to open late 2023, Supernormal Brisbane will be the flagship restaurant of a 47-storey building with river views and a facade of cascading greenery.

"When I first saw the design, I was immediately struck by the way it responds to its riverside location and the Brisbane climate," says McConnell.

"Architects WOHA have created an almost living, breathing facade that wraps the whole building. There is nothing quite like it in Australia."

Singapore-based WOHA have designed the building, while interior architecture firm ACME will work on the restaurant's look. The firm brought to life McConnell's most recent venue, the award-winning Gimlet at Cavendish House.

While that venue echoed the glamour of big-city dining in New York or London, Supernormal has a more playful identity informed by Japanese culture.

The menu will maintain its signature mix of Cantonese, Shanghainese, Sichuanese and Japanese influences, but with tweaks that make the most of Queensland's access to seafood and its subtropical climate.

The restaurant seats 120, with an alfresco area to capitalise its boardwalk position within the luxury residential tower. It's one of the last riverfront sites in Brisbane to be developed, and is located between Howard Smith Wharves and Eagle Street Pier. Developers of the 443 Queen Street project, CBUS, also developed the Melbourne CBD building where Supernormal opened in 2014.

The restaurant plans to trade seven days a week for lunch and dinner.
