Babu Ji Indian eatery to open in New York City
First Kyneton, then North Fitzroy, St Kilda, now New York. Jessi and Jennifer Singh, the couple behind Dhaba at the Mill, Horn Please and Babu Ji, are taking their particular brand of Indian food to New York, opening Babu Ji NY in Alphabet City next month.
"We see a general void in the casual Indian dining scene," says Jennifer from New York. "Generally, there is the typical Indian dive and also the typical Indian fine dining venue, but not much of note in between. We know the exciting and often surprising experience of Indian food can really happen somewhere in the middle – where there is room for interaction, engagement, a bit of fun and a relaxed approach to the food."
The Singhs plan to return to Melbourne once Babu Ji NY gets going. Meanwhile, their two Melbourne venues, Babu Ji and Horn Please, will operate as usual.
