A TEENAGE woman was flung through the windscreen of a Holden Commodore ute in a serious crash on Huon Rd at Fern Tree just after 1am Sunday morning.

Sergeant Michael Ertl said the 18-year-old male driver from Grove failed to negotiate a right hand bend as he travelled south and collided with trees on the edge of the south bound lane.

The 19-year-old Sandford woman who was ejected from the vehicle was taken to the Royal Hobart hospital by ambulance where she remains in a serious condition.

“At the time of the crash there were two passengers in the vehicle, an 18-year-old man from Mountain River and a 19-year-old woman from Sandford,” Sgt Ertl said.

“As a result of the crash the female was ejected through the windscreen.”

Sergeant Ertl said the driver and male passenger have “also been detained in hospital” with non-life threatening injuries.

“Road and weather conditions are not a factor in this crash,” Sgt Ertl said.

Investigations are continuing regarding the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Police have asked for any witnesses to the crash or any person who has CCTV camera footage for Huon Road to contact Police.

The crash scene outside 652 Huon Rd was cleared just before 7am.

The crash follows the death of an 88-year-old man in two car collision on the Huon Highway on Friday night.
