One person is in hospital with serious injuries after a bus and a car collided.

UPDATED: ONE person was seriously injured in a collision between a Metro bus and car on Saturday.

Police said a silver Kia Rio hatch crossed onto the incorrect side of Westbury Rd, Prospect, colliding with a bus driven by a 53-year-old male who was carrying three passengers.

One passenger sustained minor injuries and was taken to Launceston General Hospital.

The driver and other passengers were uninjured.

The 47-year-old female Kia driver was taken to LGH with non-life threatening injuries.

Westbury Rd was closed for three hours while police investigated the scene.

Anyone with dashboard footage of a silver Kia Rio hatch travelling west on Westbury Rd about 4.20pm has been asked to contact the Northern Road and Public Order Services unit on 6777 3877.

EARLIER: One person has been seriously injured in a collision between a car and a bus.

Police and emergency services were called to the scene at Westbury Rd, Prospect, on Saturday afternoon.

Traffic has been diverted away from the crash site, with Westbury Rd closed between Prospect St and Bertha St.

Motorists have been asked to avoid the area and expect delays as emergency services remain on the scene.

One person has been taken to Launceston General Hospital. The extent of their injuries is not known.
