A gang of hoons ploughed into fences, tore up an oval, and performed burnouts outside Clarendon Vale Community Primary School on Saturday night.

Shocked witnesses called Tasmania Police, who arrived on the scene and managed to arrest one of the hoons.

Sergeant Michael Ertl said the driver had since been taken into police custody.

“We received multiple calls just after 9pm. Police attended and a person was taken into custody,” Sergeant Ertl said.

“It looks like there was a number of vehicles there as well as a sizeable crowd.”

Witnesses say there were three cars tearing up the school oval as well as a crowd of roughly 50 rowdy onlookers on the street.

One of the residents Angela Cunningham saw the chaos unfold on Saturday night.

Ms Cunningham, her niece, and her niece’s daughter spent the following morning clearing up the piles of stubbies and beer cans littering the ground in the aftermath.

“A nice guy walking his dog also offered to help. Between us all it was cleaned up in 10 minutes,” she said.

Several fences were bowled over by the cars and one fence pole was snapped clean in half.

The grass oval is now scarred with tyre tracks and the nearby road bears several skid marks where they were performing burnouts.
