A hoon who burned up a Keysborough street meet packed with spectators has admitted paying a mate cash to take the rap for him.

Andrew Drew, 23, pleaded guilty in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday to charges including recklessly engage in conduct that put persons in danger of serious injury.

Drew intentionally caused his Holden Commodore to lose traction as he hooned through Cambria Rd on November 15 last year.

Anti-hoon cops allegedly witnessed Drew and other road menaces at the “high-risk driving event” packed with about 100 spectators.

Drew also pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified driving

Dandenong High Risk Driving Crew members ignited an investigation to snare Drew and other drivers involved at the illegal hoon gathering.

Police quickly tracked down Drew and his distinctive Commodore – bearing plates ‘RN4MUK’ – in December.

Drew, who pleaded guilty to attempting to pervert the course of justice, paid cash to his younger mate Caleb Cromarty to take the fall as the hoon driver.

Cromarty initially copped dangerous driving and other hoon charges but those charges were dropped after police suspected Drew paid his mate $1000 to take the hit.

Cromarty, of Dandenong North, had previously fronted court charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice and providing false information to police.

It’s also alleged Drew, of Bayswater North, roped his girlfriend Zara Lunney-Adams into the conspiracy.

Lunney-Adams, 20, who previously fronted court on an attempt to pervert the course of justice charge, allegedly facilitated the payment between Drew and Cromarty.

The court heard Lunney-Adams and Cromarty’s matters have also been resolved.

Drew was arrested at his Bayswater North home where police seized his distinctive silver Commodore on March 23.

Drew’s Facebook page is littered with sad emoji face tributes to his seized car.

Drew, Cromarty and Lunney-Adams, of Narre Warren, will all face the County Court at a later date.
