Teenage star Jye Menzie reveals North Hobart’s secret formula

He was voted best afield in North Hobart’s win over Lauderdale and Jye Menzie reveals how the Demons did it. FULL MATCH REPORT >>

JUMPIN’ Jye Menzie is enjoying the best of both worlds in his football right now as a member of the Tasmania Devils and forward line star for North Hobart in the TSL.

While the NAB League Boys competition is on hiatus, Menzie, 18, has turned his trade to the State League and helping to make the Demons a force.

His four-goal best-afield performance in North Hobart’s win over Lauderdale at Lauderdale Oval on Saturday gave the Demons the boost they needed.

“Coming off three losses it was a big one for the boys to get up,” Menzie said.

“We went down there confident and it was good to get the win.”

North Hobart has a one-for-all, all-for-one attitude.

“It’s a confidence we have in the group. We all believe that we can win games of footy and that’s what you’ve got to do if you want to be a successful club,” Menzie said.

“It’s not just the way we use the ball, it’s the connection we have as a group.

“We are all so close _ we can win together we lose together, and we learn all learn from that.”

Menzie is North Hobart’s “attack dog” in the forward line, with a role to apply pressure to opposition defenders and keep the ball in the red zone.

That he kicked a game-high four goals, along with Bomber Joe Salmon, was a bonus.

With Glenorchy looming this week, North Hobart hopes for its first win in three attempts at home.

“They have been good for a number of years, so we need to go in having confidence and belief that we can win,” Menzies said.

The NAB League resumes for as 12-week block after North Hobart‘s match against Clarence next week.

“It’s an awesome program. I’m loving being around the boys. It’s a great group,” Menzie said.

“Compared to TSL footy, where there’s bigger bodies and it’s a lot more physical, and NAB League is quicker.

“It’s hard going over and playing against the Vic boys, because there are so good, but it’s a good opportunity for us to put our names out there.”
