While it is a tournament that has produced plenty of international talents, Victoria will be looking to its already green and golden group to bring the heat at the FA National Youth Championships.

Victoria has a chance to cement itself as the powerhouse football state in Australia.

The state will defend three national titles, including one on home soil, at this month’s Football Australia National Youth Championships.

The state’s Under-15 girls side will take to the field at the Home of the Matildas in Melbourne from Wednesday determined to defend their crown, while their under-16 side will have vengeance on its mind after being trounced by rivals NSW Metro in last year’s final.

Then it will be all about their boys teams, with both the Under-15 and Under-16 sides defending their national titles, from July 16.

Every match of both tournaments will be exclusively live streamed on KommunityTV for subscribers of all of News Corp Australia’s digital mastheads.

While the championships have been a proving ground for athletes to go onto national honours, Victoria will be looking to an impressive group of players coming out of the green and gold to push their title cause.

Victorian Under-16 attacking weapon Alice Francou was a member of the Junior Matildas squad that competed in the Under-17 Asian Cup in Indonesia in May, while rising star Poppy O’Keefe has also been part of the national set-up at junior level.

Both will be key players in the Victorian side on home soil.

Five young guns will return from international duties just in time for the boys championship.

Anthony Didulica (St Albans), Alex and James Houridis (both Glen Eira), Besian Kutleshi (North Sunshine Eagles) and Jayden Necovski (Pascoe Vale) are all representing Australia at the Under-16 ASEAN Championships in Indonesia.

Football Victoria technical director Boris Seroshtan said the level of talent in the state ranks was exciting.

“There’s a number of young players that have the opportunities to put their names forward with their performances,” Seroshtan said.

“It’s always interesting to see where we’re at, we have quite a few players who have great potential.

“These games are the time when we can compare and see how they go ... there’ll be quite a few scouts from Football Australia and national team coaches as well to identify potential talent.

“It’s very positive, we’ve had very strong performances in the last couple of years and the number of players representing national teams has significantly grown as well.”
