Live stream: Players to watch named for Queensland Football Schools League Grand Finals

Varsity College had the numbers but Stretton College matched them for titles as one of the state’s top schools tournaments came to an exciting climax. Catch up on all five REPLAYS.

Goalkeeper Matilda Wise proved the hero as Stretton College edged out arch rivals Varsity College on penalties in the Queensland Schools Football League senior girls grand final.

With the scores locked at 3-3 in penalties, Wise dived to her left to pull off an excellent stop to give her school the advantage. Chloe Hine then stepped to deliver the killer blow as Stretton captured their second consecutive title.

Stretton also took the senior boys title with a 3-1 success over Varsity. Stretton found themselves 1-0 down early, but went into halftime level. Two goals in the second half was enough to propel them to the title.

It’s also back-to-back titles for Robina SHS who turned in an impressive display in front of goal to comfortably see off the challenge of Varsity College in the junior boys.

The 2023 champions have been the dominant team in the league all year and their 5-0 success should not have come as any surprise.

Three goals in a dominant opening stanza and two second-half goals to Owen Morrison proved more than enough.

Varsity College did, however, bounce back in the subsequent two games, first winning the junior girls title on the back of two wonderful strikes and then going on a goalscoring spree in the intermediate boys decider.

Varsity broke the girls deadlock against Stretton College three minutes into the second half and added another late on for good measure to grab a 2-0 win.

Two goals in the first half and three more after the break ensured Pacific Pines SHS couldn’t get close to challenge Varsity in the boys game

McLachlan loves a tackle. Solid, strong, and courageous, he’s always willing to put his body on the line to ensure nothing gets past him.

A fantastic player who puts her body on the line with every tackle and who is always willing to do whatever is asked of her.

Jazlyn Turner

An extremely versatile player who is capable of playing anywhere on the pitch. She always gives 100 per cent and does it all with a smile on her face.

Paddy Moore

Moore is the engine room in the middle of the park, covering every inch of the field. He’ll do whatever it takes to win and thrives in competitive situations.

Matt Koning

A highly talented footballer who reads the game better than anyone. He excels at the simple things and always knows how to find the back of the net. He would love to replicate last year’s success when he scored the winning penalty in the senior boys grand final.

Isaac Mousley

Isaac is a technically gifted individual with the mentality of a veteran senior men’s player. He remains calm under heavy pressure and can read the game ever so well. If he continues in his current development trajectory, he will have a very successful career ahead.

Jayden Vaughan

An attacking player who is very cunning with finding space in the final third. Can shoot with power and accuracy on both feet and is unselfish if a teammate is in a better position. He will identify the best opportunity to either shoot or pass the ball. Very hard to dispossess. Also has an impressive burst of speed to evade opponents.

Senior Boys

Stefan Dmitrovic

Dmitrovic has enjoyed a breakout year for both school and club football. He has been a mainstay in the midfield for Stretton and helped them to their most successful QFSL season, providing 14 goals from the middle. For his club, St George, he has had the opportunity to take part for their first team as they won FQPL1, and he graced the hallowed turf of Suncorp Stadium during the grand final.

Stefan Dmitrovic will be an important player for Stretton.

Sam McCosker

The Year 11 student transferred from Ipswich Grammar and made an immediate impact, scoring two goals in his first QFSL game. He has helped lead the line for the Stretton, linking up with players to help win games. He has achieved both Met West and Queensland representative honours this year.

Senior Girls

Syeira Collard

As captain of the squad, Syeira leads by example with a work rate second to none. Syeira’s versatility and creativity make her dangerous in both attack and defence, and her keen eye for goal has her leading the golden boot tally for the squad.

Shubreet Sran

A composed, creative and skilfull player. Although often playing in the backline, Shubreet has an attacking nature and is dangerous on the ball. Shubreet plays with a maturity beyond her years, providing guidance and direction to the younger players around her.

Junior Girls

Ellie Hucknall

At only 12 years old, Ellie performs well beyond her years being identified as one of the best centre back’s in Queensland, recently making the state team and will be competing in nationals later in term four. A strong challenger who is calm when on the ball.

Alessandra Gjura

The equal top goal-scorer for the whole female academy at Stretton, she is a very versatile player and has a keen eye for goal, with a talent to finish anywhere in the final third.

Junior Boys

Owen Morrison

Owen is a dynamic number 10 who creates and scores goals, he can see a pass to set up the goal or create himself that bit of space to bury a chance if he is provided with it.

Ethan Holroyd

Ethan is box to box midfielder that runs the game. He has an engine that allows him to compete for the whole game, while ensuring he is able to dictate the game by influencing his own team and interrupting the opposition.
