Lindisfarne quick claims a second nine-wicket haul for Lightning in 12 months in brilliant solo effort

A Lindisfarne speedster claims the second nine-wicket haul for the club in a year, Glenorchy’s boom recruit dismantles New Town and two other thrillers cap round four CTPL action.

LEFT arm quick Anthony Marr has captured the second-best figures in Lindisfarne’s CTPL history as the two time reigning premier heaped more pain on the competition’s northern side.

Nearly a year to the day since Nathan Ellis set a club record 9-30, Marr bagged 9-58 against Greater Northern as the Lightning completed a 55-run rout.

Chasing a modest 175 for victory and resuming day two at Anzac Park on 0-14, the Raiders made a solid enough start in moving to 36 without loss.

Then Marr started his destruction.

He removed Brayden Stepien (28) and Will Bennett in the space of three balls, before adding the big scalp of Evan Gulbis and Cooper Anthes shortly after.

Spinner Jarrod Freeman bowled Oliver Wood to become what would be the only other wicket taker, with Marr returning for a second spell to rip through the lower order.

At KGV, another firebrand quick showcased exactly why his Glenorchy coach Brett Geeves believes he could be on the Tigers radar as the Pies’ early season resurgence continued.

Matt Fotia landed at KGV from Victorian Premier League club Ringwood with a reputation as a genuine speedster and he unleashed a devastating spell on New Town.

The former Australian under-19 representative snared 6-34 from 13.4 overs, helping skittle the Bucks for 119 in reply to Glenorchy’s 9-277 declared last week.

Resuming at 3-22, the hosts lost two early wickets when Fotia bowled Austin Keeling and then removed former Zimbabwean international Tawanda Mupariwa shortly after.

Bucks skipper Hugh Williams was Fotia’s fifth victim, before the quick wrapped up the innings by bowling Bill Dodd for a golden duck.

Forced to follow on, New Town made a better fist of its second innings, reaching 5-202 before stumps were called.

At the TCA, North Hobart skipper Caleb Jewell thrived in his first hit in a month with a sparkling century which helped his side pocket maximum points against South Hobart-Sandy Bay.

The Demons began the day at a wobbly 3-19 with Jewell unbeaten on four, but the Tigers left hander wasted little time wrestling the momentum back for the hosts.

Jewell (122 from 197 balls, 16 boundaries and a six) received handy support from Tom Rogers — who pitched in a run-a-ball 43 — before departing just after the Demons had passed the Sharks’ 212.

Corey Murfet (34) also played a vital role in the chase before coach Robb Macmillan (37 not out from 30 balls) and Ian Carlisle (43 not out off 22 with four sixes) blasted an unbroken 80-run stand for the last wicket to steer North to 9-321 declared.

The Sharks then crashed to 8-82 and an outright defeat, with skipper Sean Willis (wedding) and Sam Voss (injured) unable to bat.

A thrilling draw unfolded at the Twin Ovals between Kingborough and University.

Set a target of 302, the Lions reached 9-299 before stumps ended the chances of both sides snaring a win.

Zac Phair top scored with 89, while Sam Harbinson’s late 59-ball 63 nearly got the visitors across the line.
