Lauderdale onballer was having one for the ages until the smallest injury caused a major problem

Bomber Bryce Walsh was in the middle of the best performance by a TSL player this year until the smallest of injuries put him in hospital.

LAUDERDALE warrior Bryce Walsh was on track for a career-best game at the Twin Ovals on Saturday when injury put the brakes on his flying start to the Bombers’ 31-point win over the Tigers.

A few minutes after half-time, when Walsh had amassed 24 possessions, 14 contested, six clearances, two inside 50s, three rebound 50s and a goal, he dislocated his finger in two places while tackling a Tiger.

Wash went straight off the ground and found himself off to hospital to have it repaired.

Walsh’s performance was still enough to earn him top votes in the TSL Player of the Year Award and left him wondering how his stats and TSL Star Tracker player rating might have read had he not been whisked away.

“I had a run-with role on Kieran Lovell and he was taking me to the football,” Walsh said.

“It was a good first half and I was having a good day, but I dislocated my finger five minutes into the third quarter and that was it for me.”

After consecutive losses to North Hobart, Launceston and North Launceston, Lauderdale came out firing after the bye.

“It was good to end a three-game losing streak and get a win,” Walsh said.

“We were pretty impressive in the first quarter, which set it up _ nine goals to two in the first was pretty much the margin for the rest of the day.”

The Bombers played direct, unsociable football.

“We were predictable for our forwards and we were spotting them up on the lead and in the first quarter we finished our work really well.”

Lauderdale is at home to North Hobart in TSL round eight on Saturday.

“After snapping the losing streak and playing some pretty good football on the weekend, that is going to hold us in good stead this week,” Walsh said.

“Lauderdale is pretty muddy so that is going to suit our contested style.

“If we can win the ball in the middle and get the ball in quick to our forwards that’s going to help us have another good one.”
