IT’S no surprise that Launceston captain Jobi Harper has pulled clear on top of the TSL Player of the Year Award with another powerhouse performance for the Blues despite their shock loss to Clarence at Windsor Park on Saturday.

Based on the TSL Star Tracker, run exclusively in the Mercury after every TSL game, the numbers have it when it comes to Harper and other top performers in Tasmania’s premier football competition.

In the lowest-scoring game in TSL history, and in spite of Clarence’s one-point upset of the previously undefeated Blues, Harper went on another ball-winning rampage in the wet and unfriendly conditions.

TSL GAME STATS:

He had 31 disposals, 16 contested possessions, six marks, 13 clearances and seven inside 50s.

This earned Harper 134 points on Premier Data’s Ranking Points System.

That was not the best performance of the round.

That honour went to North Launceston onball gun Jack Avent, who had 35 touches in the Bombers’ win over the Tigers at UTas Stadium, as well as 23 contested possessions, six marks, six clearances and eight inside 50s.

Avent earned 143 ranking points for his effort.

Three other leading performers who earned three-figure points rankings in TSL round six were Glenorchy forward-cum-onballer Jaye Bowden (102), North Hobart onballer Jack Sandric (112) and Tigers ball-winning beast Will Campbell (117).

With this week off for the bye, Launceston is still on top of the TSL — right where Harper wants it to be.

“Our aim is to be the best,” Harper said.

“At the moment North Launceston is the benchmark and we’ve got our sights set on beating them.

“That’s where we want to be – we want to be at the top and we think we are good enough to go there.”

The TSL stats and player rankings are a click away at the Mercury Sport online.

Next up is round seven with games between North Hobart and Clarence at North Hobart Oval 2pm, Tigers and Lauderdale at Twin Ovals 2pm, and Glenorchy and North Launceston at KGV 2.30pm.
