Arrest over alleged property fraud

An accused prolific property scam artist has been arrested for a fourth time after allegedly fleecing another victim while on bail as part of his shonky $21m venture.

Craig Heath, who once claimed to have worked with country music star Keith Urban, was arrested again on Friday in relation to further alleged property frauds.

Mr Heath is accused of running an elaborate $21m investment scam where he allegedly pretends to be a property developer offering to rebuild homes before making off with the cash.

It can be revealed that the 51-year-old, who fronted court in June facing more than 100 charges, was picked up alongside two other men.

Detectives from the Cardinia CIU swooped on Mr Heath’s Ormond home and a residence on Old Dandenong Rd on Friday morning.

“A 62-year-old man and a 24-year-old man, both from Heatherton, were arrested at the scene,” a Victoria Police statement read.

“They have been released and are expected to be charged at a later date with attempting to obtain property by deception, obtain property by deception and theft.”

Mr Heath was previously arrested in February, April, May and again at 10.30am on Friday.

“The arrests relate to an alleged scam that occurred in Ormond between May and August,” the police statement continued.

“It is alleged a man, claiming to be an established developer, convinced an alleged victim to obtain finance for a commercial property development.

“The man allegedly took money from the victim, with no building works ever proceeding.”

Police allege Mr Heath extracted almost $30,000 from his most recent alleged victim.

“It is alleged the man was attempting to obtain more than $640,000 under a fraudulent loan application, of which he actually obtained more than $29,000 from the alleged victim.”

He was slapped with further charges including attempted obtain property by deception, obtain property by deception, and theft.

Police again applied to have his bail revoked which was approved, meaning he spent the weekend behind bars.

The singer-songwriter was in June facing 107 charges relating to the alleged $21m scam.

A court heard Mr Heath allegedly failed to rebuild properties on at least 26 occasions.

Detectives have been sifting through more than 3000 pages of statements on top of about 2000gb of phone data.

There are more than 100 witnesses to his work, the court was told.

Prosecutor Dr Vincent Farrugia in June told the court there was enough evidence for police to investigate Mr Heath “for the next six years as more allegations come to light”.

Mr Heath was remanded in custody to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on January 17 January.
