When an outback mining town in the middle of QLD station country turns 100, there’s only one smart thing to do: throw a rodeo.
In two months time, the Mount Isa Mines Rodeo team will be joining forced with Mount Isa City Council to throw a special, one-off rodeo.
Isa Rodeo Limited CEO Natalie Flecker said for 64 of those 100 years, the Mount Isa Mines Rodeo has been an integral part of the community.
Rodeo events will include a rock concert headlined by Cold Chisel member Ian Moss, Shannon Noll and local favourite, Luke Geiger.
Rodeo events include bull ride, saddle bronc, bareback bronc, team roping, barrel racing, steer wrestling, rope and tie, breakaway roping and poddy calf events alongside the crowd favourite - the Op Shop Barrel Race.
‘Road to Rodeo’ started in Longreach last year and the intent is to hold the event in a new outback town each year.
Mount Isa mayor Danielle Slade said ‘Road to Rodeo’ will compliment the ‘Back to the Isa Reunion Dinner’.
