BUDDING entrepreneurs can now get a free leg-up through participation in Enterprize Tasmania’s new Big Ideas Challenge.
Enterprize Tasmania is supported by government, university and corporate partners to provide offices and co-working space, run events and facilitate mentoring and training.
The Big Ideas Challenge opened today for applications from entrepreneurs looking to develop their knowledge of start-ups and innovation.
Enterprize Tasmania general manager Casey Farrell said the challenge would introduce participants to world’s best practice principals in early-stage start-up development.
Trained facilitators will teach the basics of how successful start-ups are built, how ideas can be validated and how ideas should be pitched for investment through an online course.
“The Big Ideas Challenge has been developed with the assistance of recognised global start-up ecosystem leaders,” Mr Farrell said.

“The content is fantastic – the perfect foundation for Tasmanian founders to start their start-up journey.
“Even if you’re not quite ready to start a business, what you’ll learn through the Big Ideas Challenge will give you the tools and confidence to take the next steps.”
Mr Farrell said the course was initially designed for in-person delivery, but was converted to an online learning platform following coronavirus restrictions being established.
He said the new format will allow the challenge to be accessed more broadly across the state than the proposed face-to-face model.

Through the Challenge, participants will complete online coursework between June 15 and June 26, then record and submit a 60 second video pitch of their idea.
Public voting for a ‘people’s choice award’ will commence on Monday July 6 and expert judges will select the best teams to pitch live at a public digital Demo Day on Friday July 24.
