WINE is so subjective, and so are wineries.

While Tasmania has plenty of great wineries, we’re after Tasmania’s best Winery. It doesn’t matter if it’s the wine, or the experience, or the food, we want to know.

Below the Mercury has short-listed 20+ favourites from staff and readers alike to determine who is Tassie’s Best Winery.

Angela Morgan said the heritage listed Derwent Estate possesses a beautiful charm and atmosphere that you can’t bottle.

The Derwent Estate cellar door manager said there were several drawcards that made the site appealing to locals and tourists alike, including the 1820 built Rathbone Cottage

“The outlook is stunning, there’s a beautiful old veranda where you can sit and have your lunch,” Ms Morgan said.

She said 1830 built homestead nearby looked like something out of provincial France.

“It has a lot of character,” she said.

“We tried really hard to make it a welcoming journey rather than just a quick tasting.”

Ms Morgan said the iconic Pinot gris with its “savoury character” and “striking” rose gold hue also attracted visitors to the site.

The cellar door manager said she was “very excited” about the Mercury’s Best Winery in Tassie competition, where readers can nominate and vote for their favourite spots to wine and dine.

“The wine industry in Tasmania overall is very supportive of each other and we all work towards the one common goal which is to share our beautiful wines with as many people as we can,” she said.

“How boring would it be if we only had one winery that we could choose from?”

If you’re looking for somewhere to grab a couple of bottles, or for a Sunday lunch – or if you’re passionate about your favourite winery, see the shortlist or cast your vote below.
