WITH a cheeky grin and inquisitive smile, it’s not hard to see why little Ari is the apple of his mums’ eyes.
The Launceston tot has been named Tassie’s Cutest Bub for 2020, winning The Mercury’s poll out of 250 finalists.
“He is the cheekiest, happiest and most beautiful little boy who just lights up our lives,” proud mum Kayla Mahoney said when nominating Ari.
Ms Mahoney and her partner Erin Bezemer welcomed their son on February 21, 2020 at the Launceston General Hospital.
“Erin and I have been together for almost six years and we quite early on discussed and decided to have children,” Ms Mahoney said.
“We were a little bit stunned as it was quite a quick process, with the help of a donor.
“It didn’t work the first time, but we tried again three weeks later and were successful and nine months later Ari was here.”
Ms Bezemer is on maternity leave with her job as a baker, and Ms Mahoney has returned to work post-COVID lockdown at the Hotel Grand Chancellor in the north.
“COVID was kind of a blessing in disguise because I was able to be home with Erin and Ari and seeing the milestones I wouldn’t have seen if I was at work,” she said.
“I can’t believe he won Cutest Bub. He’s such a beautiful, cheeky thing and it’s so amazing to have won the vote out of so many finalists.”
