Nail art tips from Australian fashion week 2013

NAIL artist Kirsty Kelly was “totally shocked” on Sunday morning to learn she had been voted Tassie’s top nail technician by her satisfied clients and friends.

Hundreds of votes were cast across 48 short-listed contenders in the Mercury’s online poll as part of the Tassie’s Best series.

Mrs Kelly and her home business Pin Up Beauty received more than 15 per cent of the vote.

The mother of two said her clients go to her looking for something different.

“I generally don’t offer your plain everyday nails,” she said.

Mrs Kelly specialises in nail art from Disney characters to hand painted designs for regular clients and special occasions from birthdays to weddings and Christmas.

“A lot of people come out for Christmas nails.”

But, satisfying her clients is about more than just quality nails for Mrs Kelly.

People enjoy the relaxed and comfortable atmosphere of her home salon in Pontville.

“I try to get along with everybody, treat everybody differently and cater to their needs.

Among rounding out the top five nail technicians were Emily Robinson from Skindulgence in Hobart, Sarah Robinson from Get Nailed by Sarah in Hobart, Kristy Phillips from Xtreme Nails in Bridgewater and Tegan Evans from Tegan’s Nails and Tanning in Glenorchy.

Nominations for Tassie’s Best burger joint will open on Tuesday.
