THE Tasmanian Health Service will be tasked with radically overhauling the culture of the state’s health system to ensure better outcomes for patients.
Health Minister Michael Ferguson on Saturday announced he would implement all 10 recommendations from a Auditor-General report into health services — which included urgently implementing a culture improvement program within the THS and Health Department to ensure hospital staff worked together better.
Mr Ferguson said: “There are no silver bullets to the issues raised in the report, but the Government remains committed to further improving the longstanding cultural and process challenges in our hospitals to improve patient flow and provide the best possible healthcare to all Tasmanians.”

More than 50 health stakeholders, including Mr Ferguson, met in Hobart last week to discuss improving patient flow at the Royal Hobart Hospital.
Participants agreed to a number of initiatives to improve patient flow and maximise emergency department efficiency, including work to streamline collaboration between hospital departments, improving culture and empowering staff to implement change.
