TASMANIA Police is expected to lay charges against a youth in relation to a spate of tyre slashings at Blackmans Bay earlier this month.

Vandals left more than 20 cars with flat tyres in Diamond Drive, Amethyst Drive and surrounding streets over the long weekend in June.

Residents said at the time it appeared someone had been through the hilly, sporadically lit area over the Saturday night with a knife and punctured all tyres on the road side, but left ones on the kerb side untouched.

Kingston CIB was investigating the tyre puncturing incident and told the Sunday Tasmanian officers anticipated a youth would be charged with multiple counts of damage to property.

“Investigations into possible additional offenders are continuing,” a police spokeswoman said.

The Kingborough region has also been struck by at least three reports of vehicles being burnt out — one at Tinderbox and two near the Kingston Beach sailing club. The incidents are under investigation.

Meanwhile, 25-year-old landscaper Stuart Guthrie from Melbourne had his 2005 white Nissan GU patrol stolen last weekend while on a two-week holiday around the state.

It was parked on the street out the front of his AirBnB in New Town with at least $20,000 worth of equipment in the back including camping gear, a drone, laptop, snorkels, chainsaws, a small fridge and air compressor.

Mr Guthrie said there had been no leads from police as yet.

“I’m at the point now where I’ve just got to move on, which is a shame because it was my pride and joy and it took me a lot of time and effort to get it to where it was, all for it to be stolen by some scumbag,” he said.

“Other than that it was a beautiful trip.”
