THREE new food offerings have been announced for Hobart’s newest shopping centre.
Construction on the new $30 million Glebe Hill Village is set to begin in early 2021 with the centre expected to open its doors in 2022.
It will be the first new neighbourhood shopping centre to be developed in the region in more than a decade.
Following previous announcement of stores such as Coles and McDonalds, project developers Tipalea Partners announced on Wednesday a further slew of shops had come onboard.
Tasmanian healthy eating giants Liveat are among those set to take up a tenancy, alongside a sushi train and a pizzeria.
A Moe & Co Barber and phone kiosk have also come on board.
Liveat managing director Troy Sutcliffe said the development was the most exciting thing to happen on the Eastern Shore in decades.
“The number of high-quality businesses that will be down there is definitely a drawcard,” he said.
“It’ll be a real destination for that area.”
Mr Sutcliffe said a major deciding factor in coming into Glebe Hill Village was the developers showing them the data, analytics and amount of investment going into the area.
“For us this is a calculated risk, but a lot of that risk is mitigated by the quality of the building, the other tenants, the investment into the area,” he said.
“To the public things like this could look like a spur of the moment decision, but the seeds for this got planted years ago.
“I think a lot of operators in the area are bursting at the seams.
“For long-term growth I think there definitely needs to be an investment in commercial growth.”
This is not the only expansion the business is working on.
Liveat is soon set to open a store inside Hobart Airport’s departure lounge, and negotiations for a site in Devonport are underway.
“Our challenge is that we’re a small state and we don’t want to outgrow ourselves, so as a business we’re making sure that our growth is sustainable,” he said.
The centre will also include Australia Post, a chemist, medical centre, bottleshop, tobacconist and nail salon.

Popular discount pharmacy Chemist Warehouse is set to open at the former Zap gym site on Montpellier Retreat with neighbouring pharmacy My Chemist nearing its closure.
Gareth Wells managing partner of Chemist Warehouse – a parent company of My Chemist – said the changes were about relocating and rebranding the original store.
He said two additional staff would be employed when the Chemist Warehouse opens later this month.
“We’ve been looking for a bigger premises for a while and this allows us to move into a space and provide a better price point for customers,” he said.
“It also aligns with our other stores and gives the opportunity to offer a greater range of products.”
Mr Wells said the new Chemist Warehouse – which has a 30 per cent larger footprint than the Salamanca My Chemist site – would offer four additional cosmetic brands and six more fragrance cabinets.
He said all products would increase stock by 25 per cent as a result of the switch.
The My Chemist store will close permanently on November 29 and the Chemist Warehouse will launch a day later.
