UPDATE: A TRUCK stolen from the South Hobart tip shop has been found just a couple of kilometres away from where it was taken.

Tip shop assistant co-ordinator Jason Richards said the Isuzu truck, named ‘Greenie’, was spotted parked under a tree at Wellesley Park Oval by a member of the public this afternoon.

“It’s brilliant news, we can get back to salvaging and doing our usual things,” he said.

“There doesn’t appear to be any damage at first look but we will get it checked out.

“We do the best we can for the community and it’s nice to see them support us back.”

Tasmania Police confirmed they were investigating the theft of a 2002 Isuzu truck from the South Hobart tip shop at McRobies Road early on Monday morning.

The returned truck is white, with a distinctive green tray, a moustache graphic glued to the driver’s side door and registration number EP3421.

Anyone with information on the unsual theft is asked to contact Hobart CIB on 131 444 or Crimestoppers anonymously at crimestopperstas.com.au or 1800 000 699.

EARLIER: THE South Hobart tip shop is pleading with the public to help find a truck stolen from their shed after a series of alleged break-ins over the past month.

Tip shop assistant co-ordinator Jason Richards this morning said the theft had delivered a “major blow” to the not-for-profit worker’s cooperative.

Tasmania Police confirmed they were investigating the theft of a 2002 Isuzu truck from the South Hobart tip shop at McRobies Road on Monday morning.

Police said the truck contained a safe with a quantity of cash which was also stolen.

Mr Richards said he was made aware of the break-in about 4am on Monday.

“The truck is very important, we use it three times a day to salvage from landfill at the tip and until it is returned or we source a new one we’re going to have a limited ability to do that,” he said.

“People have been breaking into our electrical shed once a week for the past four or five weeks taking tools and now they’ve taken our truck.

“We’re trying to do something which benefits the community and environment. It’s always shocking and very disappointing to realise some people don’t care.”

The tip shop has a second truck but it requires a special licence to operate and is used for different daily duties.

Mr Richards said the community and new landfill reduction initiatives would suffer if another needed to be purchased.

“It’s not an easy task to just go buy a new one, so we need your help,” Mr Richards said.

The truck is white, with a distinctive green tray, a moustache graphic glued to the driver’s side door and registration number EP3421.
